Lesson 12

Dear Fatty,

Thank you for your twelfth message. My comments and corrections follow.

Sincerely,
Dear Professor Susan Garreis,

Thank you for your comments and corrections.

@Canada , England ,Cuba , Ireland ,there is each one at the each country.

There is one student each in Canada, England, Cuba, and Ireland.

There are five students in the US.

Generally speaking, a typical Chinese student only learns English.

If we don't learn English, we must choose another language.

In other words, we have to learn a foreign language.

I can speak and read Chinese, Japanese and English, though very poorly.

>I am still impressed with your language abilities. Many US college students must take a foreign language for two years. Most students don't get a chance to practice it and soon the other language is forgotten. some students in elementary school or high school are learning Spanish. It is spoken more and more in the US.

When I was in college, I saw the NBA game from time to time. Formerly I play basketball too. But now I neither see nor play. Ifm lazy recently.

>Most US graduate students do not have time for sports they formerly played, either. Too much time is taken up by studies.

@Warm regards.

  Fatty

Right now the US is in a very interesting position.

Never in my lifetime have the legislative and executive branches of the government been so opposed to each other.

Most ordinary citizens are disgusted with their elected officials.

Since the government is partly shut down, many people are not getting paid.

Those people and their families will suffer a very real economic hardship because of lost wages.

There is serious talk that the US will not be able to extend its debt ceiling.

The US might actually default on the bonds that are held worldwide.

I cannot imagine the short and long term global effects of a default.

I sincerely hope that every member of Congress who currently holds office will not be re-elected in the next elections.

I am embarrassed for my country.

What do people in Japan and China say about the predicament the US is in?
