Lesson 1

Dear Yuki,

Thank you for your first message. My comments and corrections follow.

Sincerely,

Prof. Sue Garreis

Dear Professor Garreis,

Hello.

My name is Miyuki Yamada. I'm a girl.

>I am delighted to meet you, Miyuki.

>Thank you for telling me you are a girl.

>I have a hard time telling which are girls' names and which are boys' names.

Please call me Yuckey.怀

>I will call you Yuki, but I will spell it "Y-U-K-I."

>In English, y-u-c-k-e-y or y-u-c-k-y means something that tastes bad.

I’m 20 years old.

My birthday is December 3.

I was born in Chiba Prefecture next to Tokyo.

My family has five people: my father, my mother, two sisters and me.

>Are your sisters younger or older than you?

My hobby is Online Shopping and drawing pictures.

I like to draw characters in the comics and TV cartoons in particular.

>What is your favorite character to draw?

>I hope you put one of your drawings on the web page you make for this course.

Thank you for reading my self-introduction.

Waiting for your reply.

Sincerely yours,

Yuki.

I just returned from a wedding in Florida.

Florida is a state on the East Coast of the US.

Maryland is in the middle of the eastern US.

Florida is the most southern state on the East Coast.

A former student had her wedding party in the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa.

Here is a link to the hotel web site: http://www.verobeachhotelandspa.com/

If you click on "photos" in the left-hand list, you can see many pictures of the hotel.

It was a wonderful party in a wonderful place!

My daughter, Kate, went with me.

The wedding was Friday.

On Saturday we spent time on the beach, in the hot tub, shopping and eating.

We flew back today (Sunday).

It was great to see my former student.

She was a beautiful bride.

Have you been to a wedding?
