Lesson 15

Dear Prof. Sue Garreis

Thank you for your 15th message. Thank you for the summary. Did the shuttle launch yet? NASA's link shows the shuttle will launch at 3:03 p.m today (friday). You drove for a long time in FL. You must be tired. Where do you get all that energy? Aren't you home yet?

Dear Mei,

Thank you for the fifteenth message.

My comments and corrections follow.

Sincerely,

Prof. Sue Garreis

>Unfortunately, the shuttle launch is postponed for a long time. It will not launch before November 30. There were several leaks, and they can be life-threatening. It is a good thing that theyNASA will take the time to find and fix the troubles. I didn't realize until this trip how often the launches are delayed. The local people said the delays are not unusual. I believe it is better to live in the area in order to see a launch.

> However, the trip was a good one anyway. We saw the Kennedy Space Center for two days. It is a wonderful museum and tribute to space travel. It had been at least ten years since I saw it. There were many changes, so it was like a brand-new museum to me. We heard a former astronaut speak about his experiences. We bought several souvenirs. The weather was absolutely great except for Thursday. The rain that day kept the big crowds away from the museum, so that was fine, too. Rebecca, my oldest granddaughter, got some valuable long-distance driving experience. She mostly drives short trips of thirty minutes or so. It is good that she had practice driving for two, three or four hours at a time. She is a good driver.

>We celebrated two birthdays. Granddaughter Megan was fourteen on Nov. 4. My sister Carol was sixty-one on Nov 5. We got Megan an ice-cream cake and ate it in the motel room. We sang Happy Birthday to her, too. Meg's sister Emily showed her how to make a Facebook page. Meg spent the day as she chose--on the computer! All of us went to dinner at a Chinese restaurant.  My sister's birthday was Friday, Nov 5 and the day we decided to return home. We sang her Happy Birthday. At our age, that is plenty of celebration.

>My favorite part of the trip was the day we spent at my neighbor's vacation home. Neither of us knew ahead of time that the other was going to Florida for the launch. When we realize that we would be in the same place, my neighbor invited all of us to his place to see the launch. He is about ten miles away from the launch pad. We went there on Tuesday and spent the afternoon by the sea. It was so great! We planned to come back for the launch, but that was not to happen.

I'm sorry. I didn't go to our school festival. So I don't know about it. But Prof. Shiina's students seem to have had like their presentation.
Prof. Shiina has a study group of accounting. Although I get acquainted with one of the menber, she must have read a great paper. As she has the ability to judge cooly, it will be no matter even if she is hit by a barrage of questions. I hope that honest and highly motivated students like she or Saya will participate in this class next year.

>I hope the students did well with their reading. Presenting a paper in public can be intimidating!

As a chance happening led us to get to know each other. I should not waste our fateful encounter. So I hope to keep in touch. I hope to send your message, when you have time. I believed that I could rapid write my thesis. But, now my research is making little progress. So I can't go to America yet because of matters of money and my thesis, but I hope to meet you when I go to America someday.

>It would be delightful if you are able to continue our correspondence after the course is done. And if you are ever in America, please let me know. It would be fantastic if we could meet in person.

Now the cold weather has set in. Are you feeling okay? Take good care of your health as the change of temperature is remarkable.

>The weather turned colder when we were in Florida. It was interesting driving back north on Sunday. Every time we got out of the car it was colder! It is definitely fall in Maryland now. Please take care of yourself, too. The quick change of temperature seems to make it easy to catch a cold.

Have a great week end!!

Sincerely,
Mei

My grandson, Sean, and his sister are at my house for two days. Sean loves a TV show called Ninja Warrior. Sean was all excited to show me this clip on YouTube:
