lesson4

Dear Jessica,

Thank you for your fourth message.  My comments follow.

Sincerely,

Prof. Sue Garreis

Dear Professor Garreis,
Thank you for your reply and corrections of my English.
 There is my homework following:

1.Does Japan's Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission have a website? What is its URL?
Yes, it has a website which is
http://www.fsa.go.jp/sesc/index.htm.

Thanks for the website url. They have quite a bit of information in English.

2.Name one way the NYSE is different from Japan's TSE.
I can find the financial information such as annual report and financial data at TSE's website but I can not find the financial information at NYSE's website.

The financial statements are more easily obtained from the SEC (Security and Exchange Commission) website. However, the NYSE site will give some of the financial information other than stock quotes. For example, I looked up my favorite railroad--CSX.  Here's the link to the annual reports of CSX: http://secfilings.nyse.com/files.php?symbol=CSX&fg=24. They are the SEC filings, but they are found on the NYSE website.  You can look up any company traded on the NYSE and find its SEC filings.

3.A. How many companies listed on the NYSE Euronext are from Japan?

There are 19 companies listed on the NYSE Euronext from Japan.

Correct.

  B. How many companies listed on the TSE are foreign?
There are 38 foreign companies listed on the TSE.

Thank you.  Did they give the breakdown by country?  I don't want you to go back and look.  I just wondered if you remembered.

4.A. In yen, what is NTT's operating income for the year ended March 31, 2008?
NTT's operating income for the year ended March 31, 2008 is 1,304,609 yen.

   B. In US dollars, what is NTT's operating income for the year ended March 31, 2008?
NTT's operating income for the year ended March 31, 2008 is 13,046 dollor.

5.A. What financial information does McDonald's of Japan have at its website?
There are financial reports of McDonald's from 2005 to 2009 in details at
http://www.mcd-holdings.co.jp/english/financial/index.html.

Yes. Thank you. It has quite a bit of information on the site.

  B. Is there more financial information at McDonald's of Japan or at McDonald's USA site?  Or is the information about the same?
I think it is almost the same expect some different promotion strategies.

>>I think it is almost the same, except for some different promotion strategies.

I think so too.

  C. Have you ever eaten at McDonald's?  What did you eat?  Did you like the food?
Of course, I like eating milk shake and fried potatos and I like the environment of McDonald's because it can make me relaxed.

I love McDonald's because it is fast!  And I love their milkshakes. Strawberry is my favorite flavor. What is your favorite milk shake flavor?  The best french fries I ever had were in Japan.

6. How does the flow of accounting information over the Internet help corporations and investors?
It can help corporations and investors to measure business activity and know about profits or losses of the corporation through a key product of accounting which is called Financial Statement.

Correct.

Sincerely, yours

Jessica
