The eleventh message

I felt this summer vacation was a very long one for me.

I remembered my family very much.  I missed my family.

During my summer vacation, on August 13-15, I went to camp at Yamanashi Ken.

My favorite season is autumn .

Autumn is a very beautiful season with the colors of maple trees.

I also like snow.

In America are there three months of summer vacation?

Yes.  Typically students and teachers finish school in late May or early June.  School resumes in very late August or early September.  The time between is the students' summer vacation.  Some teachers work during the summer at teaching or some other job.  College professors often do research in the summer.  Young students play in the summer. Older students work.  The parents of the students do not have that

long time off in the summer.  It is a problem for parents of young children.  It is hard to find proper care for them.

American college is at different time of year from college in Japan.  American college students start their first (fall) semester in late August.

The fall semester ends right before Christmas.  Christmas is December 25.  The second (spring) semester starts in mid-January for most colleges.  The spring semester is over by the end of May. American college students have a little time off during the semesters. In the fall semester there are:

1. Fall break in October.  In some schools it is one day.  In other schools it is a week!

2. Thanksgiving in November.  It is a Thursday.  The schools always are closed on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  Students have at least 4 days off:  Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In the spring semester there are:

1.  Martin Luther King Day in January.  It is a one day break.

2.  Spring break is a week off in March or April.

3.  Some schools have a day or two off at Easter, usually in April.

Colleges always have summer school.  Not all students go to summer school. Some return to their families.  Some work.  Some travel.

If you haven't read the Welcome Back page, please do that this week.  The Welcome Back page is here:

Today my husband and I went to October fest in Annapolis Maryland.  You can read some of the history of the German Oktoberfest here:

Many cities in the US have an October fest.  There was good food and many crafts booths. We found a great gift shop.
