Lesson 14

Dear Professor Garreis,

Thank you for your reply and corrections of my English.

The Orioles lost in four straight in the American League Championship Series against the Royals.

In Orioles, this season will be expired by American League championship
playoff defeat in this.

For the Orioles this season is over.

>Yes, it is. But a fan and I agreed that they had a good year. We hope next year is better.

>Here is a Wikipedia link about the world series between the Royals and the Giants:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_World_Series.

>Please translate the first three paragraphs. They have some interesting statistics about this World Series.

>I am not sure for whom I will root ("root" means "hope they win").

Next year, I hope your team advances all the way to the World Series and wins it.

>So do I!

In Nippon Professional Baseball, the Hanshin Tigers beat the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in the first play-off stage and went on to the last stage.

My team fought against the Yomiuri Giants, their rival for advancing to the Japan Series.

My team (the Hanshin Tigers) competed with the Yomiuri Giants until the latter half, but stalled in their final game.

My team wants to rid itself of the vexation of losing the championship to the Giants. Next year we want to go to the Japan Series.

>I hope your team can shake off the loss. It was a tough defeat. As we say in Baltimore about the Orioles, just wait until next year.

How many dogs have you had in your life?

>I have had two dogs in my life.

>The first dog was named Squirt. He followed my first husband home from work one day. We kept him for about seven years.

>He was put down (killed mercifully) when his legs and hips were too painful for him to walk.

>The second dog was named Nitro. She was the perfect dog for our family of young children. We had her for about twelve years. She also was put down when the tumor in her chest threatened her life.

>The dogs were wonderful. They were such fun and comfort.

It is the support of the heart, and the dog is healing for me.

>I completely agree!

I saw the picture of the real banana muffin on the web site.

The real banana muffin seemed to be very delicious.

How do you make real banana muffins?

1. Wait until the bananas get very, very ripe.

2. Mash the bananas with a fork.

3. Add flour and some other dry ingredients to the mashed bananas.

4. Stir until well blended.

5. Fill muffin cups about half full.

6. Bake in the oven until cooked (about twenty minutes).

Here are pictures of muffin tins: http://www.target.com/s/muffin+tin?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=msn&CPNG=kitchen_bakeware+ovenware&adgroup=cupcake+muffin+pan&LNM=muffin%20tin&MT=exact&LID=26p3209747&KID=79613475-0e90-54c8-021e-00000a353726

>Each 12-cup muffin tin is about 12 inches (0.3 meters) by 9 inches (0.2 meters).

Where is your favorite place to visit in the fall?

The places that I want to go in autumn are Kyoto and Nara, both in the Kinki district.

>Kyoto is a beautiful city. I hope you can go there.

Sincerely yours,

Genki
