Dear Prof. Garreis,
Homework
1. I usually write my messages on Sunday afternoon in Arnold MD.
When I am finished, it is Monday morning in
Chiba. When do you first check for my reply to your message?
Tell me the day of the week and what time of day
you check.
2. Visit America's largest telecommunications company, AT&T.
Click here for a recent press release.
What is AT&T's reported first-quarter 2006 net income?
(Hint: Find the heading "Wireline Results, Pro Forma
Comparisons." Find the fourth paragraph above that heading.
The answer is in the first sentence of that paragraph.)
3. Visit a medium-sized private university on the east coast,
Villanova University,
and see the Department ofAccountancy.
4. Use any search engine to search the Net for "balance sheet.
" Tell me how many "hits" you have, i.e., how many documents have that
phrase in it? Tell me what search engine you used. For example, I used Google to
find
"balance sheet." There were about 23,000,000 (twenty-three million)hits.
5. Finally, visit a very helpful Internet site for accounting
information (RAW).
It is maintained by Rutgers University in New Jersey. See the
"Accounting Resources."
This site is seen with Netscape 7.1 or higher or with Internet Explorer
6.0 or higher.
It cannot be seen with Netscape 4.7. The Accounting Resources page
takes you to large
accounting firms, standard setting agencies and many other places.
